Harnessing the Snake’s Energy: Transformative Health in the Lunar New Year

by | Feature, Self-Care, Traditional Chinese medicine, Traditional East Asian Medicine

As we welcome the Lunar New Year, January 29, 2025, we step into the Year of the Yin Wood Snake. This year brings a unique blend of energies and an opportunity to embrace transformation and personal growth. Let’s explore how we can harness this energy to make revolutionary changes in our health and well-being.

Yin

Yin represents the passive, receptive, and nurturing aspects of life. It is associated with qualities such as coolness, darkness, and introspection. A Yin year encourages us to slow down, reflect, and nurture our inner selves. This is a time to focus on self-care, meditation, and activities that promote relaxation and balance.

Wood

Wood is associated with growth, flexibility, and renewal. Wood generates Fire. Wood energy symbolizes transformation and creativity, like the renewal of spring when nature awakens. It encourages personal growth and the emergence of new ideas. Wood energy encourages flexibility, essential for overcoming challenges and embracing change. By aligning with Wood energy, you can unlock your potential for growth and creativity.

Snake

The Snake is a symbol of transformation, wisdom, and intuition. In TEAM, the Snake’s energy encourages us to shed old habits and embrace change. It is a time for introspection and personal growth.

Understanding the Snake’s Symbolism

Wisdom and Intuition: The snake is revered for its ability to shed its skin, symbolizing renewal and the shedding of old habits. This year, tap into your inner wisdom to identify areas of your life that need transformation.

Transformation and Growth: The snake’s energy encourages us to embrace change and growth. It’s a time to let go of what no longer serves us and to cultivate new, healthier habits. Peel away the old and renew. This is the year of opportunity to make positive changes to your health.

Take care of your heart and small intestine

Fire is related to our heart and circulatory system. This year it’s especially important to take care of your heart, both the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the heart. Taking care of your cardiovascular and circulatory system is important. Practices that cultivate your vital energy, called Qi, like Qigong are especially important for this year because it helps not only the physical body through movements but the mind, emotions and spirit as well as promoting mindfulness while doing the movements.

According to CT Holman, an esteemed East Asian Medicine practitioner who carries on the legacy of Lillian Bridges in interpreting Chinese astrology, the snake represents the small intestine organ. It’s recommended to eat smaller, lighter meals to not overwhelm the digestive system. Mindful eating is especially important this year.

The small intestine in Traditional East Asian Medicine is in charge of separating the clear from the turbid, which is important for digestion of food and digestion of information that we take in from the world. We must be mindful of how we filter through the information we receive, including news, videos, and images we choose to take in.

A revolutionary year!

In the context of Daoist medicine philosophy, each year can be associated with a specific hexagram from the I Ching, symbolizing the prevailing energies and themes for that period. This annual hexagram reflects the dynamic balance of yin and yang energies influencing the year’s events and challenges.

According to one of my teachers, Master Liu He, a renowned Qigong and Daoist medicine master, the hexagram for this year shows that it’s a revolutionary year. This is a very important time to make positive changes in your health. If you don’t actively prepare and make big positive changes in your health and in your life, you will miss the opportunity to lifelong health, well-being and abundance.

Make this Lunar New Year be a year of health transformation!

Especially if you are facing health challenges like chronic illness, inflammation, and hormone imbalances, now is the best time to upgrade your health, your life, and all the positive changes you want to make for 2025.

The Year of the Yin Wood Snake offers a unique opportunity to focus on inner growth, health, and transformation. By embracing the principles of Traditional East Asian Medicine, we can navigate this year with wisdom and balance, fostering a deeper connection to ourselves and the world around us.

May this Lunar New Year bring you health, harmony, and happiness!
